1984 Book Critique
By: Andrew Covarrubias
When George Orwell wrote this book I think he wrote it in a lot of fear and fright and like there was a lot of horror going on in his life. It ties into how people live today in their daily life. Every situation that Winston has went it seems like people go threw the same thing in their daily life. This is kind of like an elution with Winston. There are these telescreens that follow Winston every where that he goes. They are basically Party of Oceania that are torturing Winston. Winston can’t even think thoughts because of the "thought police" is there. Even thinking rebellious thoughts is illegal. So thinking about a thought crime is, it is the worst crime of all. Winston has bought a diary so that he could write down all his criminal thoughts in and in this case Winston has a strong dislike for the Party because all the criminal thoughts that he is recording in that diary are illegal. Winston’s get this letter from O’Brien a member of the Party that reads about a girl named Julia. He then meets this girl and then he starts to fall in love with her.
What I liked about this book was that it was kind of mysterious and there was sort of a catch at the end. I knew that it was O'Brien the one that was trying to break up the relationship between Julia and Winston. I really didn’t like how they lost love for each other; I wanted them to be together. Another thing that I liked about this book was that every question that i had about this book it always answered it later on in the book. I liked how in the beginning of the book it was kind of boring but when it came into the middle then into the end it was really interesting and it got really good to read after a while. This book was a bit challenging to read first like the text was kind of hard to comprehend but then when I know what I couple of words mean then its like everything starts opening up and everything is clear to comprehend in my head.
I would recommend this book to anybody that is interested in elution’s or mysterious conclusions. I would recommend this to people who are in 7th grade and up. I say this because I don’t think that students under that age would get a good deep understanding about this book. I think it is a lot to put inside your head and to understand the book. I am saying this is going to be a challenging book for them. I think that some of the words they are not going to understand/no what it means. I think that adults would be very interested in this text because I think George Orwell wrote this book sort of based on his thoughts on maybe situations that may have been going on in his daily life today. I think this book was an interesting book but it was just not in my interest to read.

Dialectical Journal #3
Quote: Winston had woken u with his eyes full of tears. Julia rolled sleepily against him, murmuring something that might have been "What’s the matter".
Response: I think that this quote means that Winston is having a hard time with his life because he is having dreams of his mother, so his is basically thinking that he is the one that murdered his mother. This quote also shows that Julia is by his side 100% trying to help him and convince him that he did not kill his mother. So this is showing that Julia cares about what is happening to Winston.
Connection: This reminds me of when I was little an I used to have really bad dreams of not exactly the same thing Winston is dreaming of but other things but when I had dreams like that their was always somebody in my house that was always their supporting me and telling me or trying to convince me that its only a dream. So sort of convincing me exactly like Julia is trying to do but with Winston when he has dreams of his mother.

Interview with Jin Jingzhi Reflection
When I was reading this interview it went into into talking about how she was scared that her husband was going to have a affair. Before the late 1950 it was said that husbands having serveral wives was a glorius thing. So Jin Jingzhi was worried that he would.
Then it started going into her actual life and how it was before 1949. Jin Jingzhi was living a hard life with her husband in jail and her having to deal with five children. She also had to deal with the Culture Revolution and also the Red Army coming into there house and searching it. Everyone that was in the house could not have any social contact with each other at all.
Thoughout her life she really shows that she loved her husband and was living through a rough life living without her husband.

MUN Relection
MUN day was a lot better than I expected it was going to be. I thought that the whole thing was going to be boring. I got a lot of information that me a lot while I was giving my speech. I knew a lot on one certain topic but the other topic I only knew a certain amount, but hearing other people give their speeches it helped realize what exactly I was talking about. I gave two speeches and commented about three times. Well I thought my performances during caucuses was good also. In the caucuses I tried not to go off task an I didn't go off task once. I think that my peers done a lot better than I did but I believe that I gave a good speech and all of it made fluent sense.
The topic that I knew the most about was the Tibet Autonomy. But the Darfur War I didn't know a lot about. I was familiar with it but didn't know to much. I like how me got the opportunity to talk. I also liked commenting on other peers speeches. I gave a comment that

Feng Shui
In our class Ms. Golub introduced a new topic called Feng Shui. We then moved our classroom around so that the energy could circulate around the room and not get stuck in some crowded corner. She then told us to Feng Shui our room.
The first chage that I made to my room was I took out my televion. Then I put a miror in the center of my room. Also I put a crystal hanging from my ceiling. Also I have a candle by my window.

Seminar
1. I feel that my classmates have done grate as they where sticking to the point. I feel that maybe they should have stuck to the main topic of the seminar. When you introduced this to us I thought that a lot of people were going to pass, but when you ask my peers how they feel about this they all answer in a relevant answer. My classmates done a great job for the first time trying out the Seminar.
The Tao Te Ching's idea ties into life today because most of the things that we were arguing about today were relevant to back then. My peers came up with the idea of homeless people not learning from there mistakes. I feel that homeless people do deserve the exact same right as rich people do. Sometimes I feel that they have done that to themselves, but again I think back saying what if I was them. I think that every time I see a homeless person.
Overall I feel that my peers have done a great job today and hope for the same success next time we have a Socratic Seminar.

Qigong
I feel that Qigong could really help me in the daily life. For instance, if I get angry at something then maybe this technique that we learned in this class could help me calm down my temper. Maybe this could prevent my anger. I feel that Qigong is a relaxing exercise that may help people with their stress, anger or maybe even if you are depressed. I think that this exercise would be great for anyone who would be interested in it.
One thought that I had today about this workshop is, when he was first talking about how we can feel energy coming from our body to our hands, I thought that was ridiculous. When I actually did the exercise , I felt the energy in my hands. It was a great felling to me and it was relaxing. At the end I felt like I wanted to do it again. At the end I didn't sign up to do it again but I think back to what exactly I was feeling and I wish I did. Overall I am glad that the teacher introduced this program to me and my other peers.

Vocabulary Test
1. The main idea of this article is about vertical farming. In order to demesticate the verticle farming Dickson Dispromirer must codify each sky scraper to become fertile for each participating big city such as New York. If he is successful our known primative cultivation would become non exsictance in the future.
2. I don't think that this is such a good idea because I think that vertical farming woutld be a determinant issue for the way human life will become. If Dickson Dispromirer's idea of vertical farming becomes successful, it would make him a deity, but I feel it would destroy our future.
The reason why I think this is because we need trees and plants outdoors so we can have fresh air.
3. I think that our nomadic anciestors who help in cultivating this earth would have did it for no reason. Now that we are a sedentary society, this idea of vertical farming might work. Yet, I hate the oppion of the sky scrapper farming. Also the reason why I dont like this is becuase if this plan works to their advantage, then everyone would steal the idea, then pretty soon there would be no trees left to give fresh air to humans.
Thats Nine Vocab Words Ms Golub
